Large quantities of oil are shipped to the port of Rotterdam. This oil provides energy for many parts of Western Europe. In RotterdamÃs gigantic port complex, there are oil refineries and storage terminals. Pipelines carry crude oil and petroleum products directly to industrial areas in Germany and Belgium.
The Netherlands has four large steel construction firms. They design and build entire chemical plants, oil refineries and offshore installations.
